It is precisely in difficult times that creative ideas often emerge. Last year’s Kids Design Award confirmed this very strongly. Never before had we received so many international submissions – 166 product designs, featuring some magnificent creations from 40 countries. Can this record be repeated? We will find out at the next Kids Design Award for young designers and design students.
In 2020, young product designer Maita Petersen won the Kids Design Award for RumpelKumpel , a versatile, hinged adventure cabinet with many drawers and a secret compartment that invites children to collect, organise and sort. There have been many exciting and impressive award-winning designs in previous years, such as furniture that grows with the child, a swivel chair that can also be used as a play area, and an educational wood toy that helps children learn to read, write and count.
Starting now, for the 8th annual Kids Design Award, we are looking for innovative concepts and trendsetting solutions in children’s products and furniture. Young designers can submit their designs for the Kids Design Award by 15 May. Participation information can be found on our website as well as Instagram . For universities that want to provide their students with information about the competition, there are Flyers available for download.

Presentation at Kind + Jugend 2021
The ten best ideas from all the concepts submitted will be nominated for the award. The plan is to have a special area at Kind + Jugend for presentation of the nominated designs. An expert jury made up of top-level representatives from the areas of design, industry and education will choose the winner of 2021 from the group of nominees. The award ceremony will be held as part of the trade fair.
For many participants, the Kids Design Award has served as a springboard for a career in design. However, it is not only the winners who benefit from the opportunity to present their innovative ideas to a wide audience. All nominees have the chance to develop their designs together with a manufacturer and bring them to market.
Kids Design Award: everyone wins
Good opportunities for great ideas – this is already enough reason for young designers to participate in the Kids Design Award and make valuable contacts. And the manufacturers? They also benefit from the competition because nowhere else will they find so many creative, cutting-edge ideas for new children’s and baby products. The award is a win for everyone. We are therefore already looking forward to many exciting submissions and new designs for this innovative industry.
